Oh So Cute Fabric Tutu!

diy scrap fabric tutu

Snooping around Pinterest I ran across these EVER SO cute fabric tutus that everyone was making (or buying on Etsy!)
They were so adorable that I HAD to have one for Willow, but I wasn't sure I wanted to spend that kind of money on something that I thought I could easily make for less than half the price.
I did a quick Google and came across the AdelynStone Blog that has a DIY tutorial for making a toddler fabric tutu.
(LOVE the site!  Check out the Repurpose page for some really cool ideas with ladders and suitcases!)
Since I have made tutu's before, I kind of had the basic idea of how to do this, but being the Google addict I am, I had to do some research before beginning.
I didn't have enough scrap fabric on hand for the project so I went to JoAnn Fabrics with my iphone in hand (I have a JoAnn Fabrics app that gives me coupons because I always forget the ones I have saved at home) and began looking for the things I needed.  I was really excited to find a roll of coordinated fabric pieces already cut to 2- 1/2 x 42 inches!  The fabrics were so cute and cost me, with the use of my 40% off coupon, around $8.00!
I wanted the skirt to last awhile (and because I like to keep things SIMPLE) I used a brown 1 1/2" wide satin ribbon instead of sewing the elastic waistband like KristanLynn did in her tutorial.  I took my precut fabric strips  (Another benefit to having bought the precut fabric was that they were cut to the perfect length already. No cutting at all was required for this project EXCEPT for cutting the ribbon to the perfect length to go around Wee One's waist and with enough left over to tie a sweet little bow. ) and started tying them around the ribbon, putting it around Willows waist every once in a while until I got it nice and full and the perfect size.
E-A-S-Y!! Even the uncrafty can handle this project! Here is how mine turned out...

Cute, huh?!  Willow loves it!  She
                                        twirls and dances
and it really does look adorable on her.
Well, she looks adorable no matter what she is wearing.
Let me know if you decide to take on this easy project!  I'd love to see your wee one twirling in your creation!

smells- a wee bit.

While cooking tonight Willow asked DoDo, " More, smells?"  DoDo didn't understand what she was saying, so Willow showed her the drawer.  And said, More, smells?  The drawer holds all of our spices.  As DoDo opened up each bottle, willow would say, "yumm..." or "no, no, yuck!" (18 months old)

nishe...

What she is trying to say is "Nice."

Willow went through a stage where when someone got in her space, she would hit their face.

Although I didn't think it was okay, I completely understood.

You have to understand we have a houseful of teens-- teens that think that Wee one is adorable, so adorable in fact that they can't help but constantly kiss her little cheeks.
Being a baby of very little words, she couldn't say, "Could you please just leave me alone?  You are in my space!"  So instead she would just look at them and give them a smack in the face.
Some learned faster than others to ask Wee one for a kiss, others had to endure many smacks before catching on.

When Willow would smack one of the love seekers,
we would gently grab her hand and brush their cheek and say, "nice, nice..."
                     Well, that didn't work.
Eventually we ended up just putting her down and walking away when she hit.  She quickly realized that she didn't like that and the hitting subsided, and her groupies soon figured out that they could ask Willow for a kiss and every once in awhile she would     grant
                                                                               their
                                                                                  wish.
Today Wee one wasn't feeling well because she has a few of her molars coming in
-OUCH!-

             and she was C-R-A-N-K-Y!

It was both sad and adorable as she occasionally freaked out and shoved her hands into her mouth in  pain (sad part) and then she would immediately take her hands and rub her cheeks and say "nishe, nishe..."  (adorable part.) I am so proud of you Willow Bee.

You are filled with so much love and you are very nishe.

Not a Baby Anymore

"Where, Oh Where, has my sweet baby gone?
Oh where, Oh where could she be?"

Okay, so I can't sing very well but I really want an answer to that question!
I have been reminded over and over the last few days how fast these baby and toddler days fly by.

Recently I was going through photos and I noticed that just a few months ago Wee One had short baby hair, now she wears her hair in two pony tails that actually look like ponytails!

Instead of just one word and pointing to let me know what she wants she puts together a few words and takes my hand to show me if she can't make me understand.

Last night Boyfriend took Wee One to the park-- just the two of them because Grammie needed a little break.  When they got back I asked Willow if she had fun.  I was amazed when she smiled at me, nodded her head yes, and told me "fun, swing!"   Yes, I cried.

Silly, I know, but it was just another sign that baby days have flown.

I have been mad at myself for not keeping better tabs on all of the exciting  firsts in Wee Ones life.    I won't continue making that mistake.
Every day with this sweet little one is a blessing and I don't want to forget a minute of it.  Thank you, God.

Go Away!- a wee bit.

A little kid at the park today told you to go away.  All day you have been saying randomly..."go away"  sadly :(  (16 months old)

Time to come out of the closet...

elephant love www.notsosimplyme.com
(No, these photos don't have anything to do with the post...They are just really cute!)

Not me, silly!  Willow.

We have 7 children - 2 boys and 5 girls.  We have 7 bedrooms in our home.
(No, we are NOT millionaires and we don't live in a mansion.)  Our house is around 2800 sq. ft.  One of the bedrooms came from a transformed office, and two others were built into our 3 car garage - after much debate we decided it was more important for our kids to have their own room than our cars.

As the kids have grown and moved out, another moves into their own room.  Right now there are "No Rooms at the Inn," but this will change soon as one more heads off to college in the Fall.
Time to reorganize and rearrange sleeping spaces!

When Willow first came to live with us we had a little portable playpen that we put into our master bathroom.  This was fine as long as we didn't have to get up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night.  (Have I mentioned that I have had FOUR babies and my last was almost 10 lb.?!  Did I mention that I am not a big person?  Put those two thoughts together and you might figure out why those night time potty trips are not bound to stop.)

Willow in the bathroom was not necessarily the best situation when Boyfriend needed to get up and get ready for work, either.
Time to get creative!
We happened to be all out of bedrooms, but we did have a big walk in closet in our room.
Unfortunately it was full.
(Yes, I do have a little shoe problem, but we all have our vices, right?!)

First things first.  All of my clothes got transferred into the persons closet with the most space, which happened to be Uncle T's.  What would a 15 year old guy have hanging in is closet other than a few dress shirts and a jacket or two? There was a ton of room for my clothes.   I hadn't really thought about what  his friends might think when they looked into his closet and saw a lot of cute dresses and even cuter shoes!  I think I handle it pretty well by not bringing up the fact that when he was 2, he used to think his sisters tutu was his.  Self control, yep.  Sometimes I have it, sometimes I don't.  It is nice to know I have good blackmail material on him -- just in case!

The next steps were to tear out the shelves and paint the walls so it was  cleaner and cozier.
Add a crib,  a mobile,  a cute painting
and we had ourselves a mini-nursery!
This has worked out great for the past 9 months, but it is time to come out of the closet.
I want my shoes closer to me.

So now the fun begins!  I get to plan how to decorate her bedroom!  Being that her favorite thing in the world is being outside, I am thinking about a nature theme-- birds, trees, flowers, bees!  Up there is the bedding we have for her crib.  The crib is brown, not white as shown in the photo.

Do you have any great ideas?  I'd love to hear 'em!

Winnie the Pooh

I know, I know.  I keep telling myself the same thing.
It's just Winnie the Pooh... Why get so worked up about it?      Because it's Winnie the Pooh.... that's why.
winnie the pooh www.notsosimplyme.com

Willow and I have a nighttime routine.
I run the bath water while  she runs around the bathroom naked tearing the towels off the shelf.   I give her her bath and float her around on her back while she makes fishy faces pretending she is a fish.
When bath fun is over, she is dried and wrapped up in her butterfly towel and we sit on the edge of the tub while I dry her hair with the hairdryer and she brushes her eat.  Yes, I know, I said eat-- for some reason that is what she calls "teeth."
It does make sense I guess--teeth...eat.  (Don't worry!  I am getting to the Pooh part!!)

When we are done upstairs with bath and eat, we head down to where Papa has her jammies, socks and diaper waiting.

We rub lotion all over, put a clean diaper on and then jammies.  Wee one runs around a bit, plays with everyone, and then I tell her it is night-night time.
She walks around saying "bye" to everyone and blows them kisses.
We head upstairs with blankies (one and two)  and bottle in hand, and cuddle up on my bed-- and this is where Pooh comes in.

I usually let her pick her bedtime story and 90% of the time, yep, you guessed!  It's a Winnie the Pooh story.

Willow will lie in my arms and listen as she drinks her bottle, following the story with her eyes until they begin to slowly close.  Soon her bottle is gone and the book is finished.

She opens her eyes and usually makes goofy faces at me on our way to her bed.  This is so cute because she is barely awake, but feels the need to send me on my way with a smile!  We say our goodnight prayers during that little walk,  I kiss her Wee little forehead, place her in her crib and tell her to sleep like an angel and that Grammie loves her.

You see, Pooh is ours.  Her BM asked if I would not take Willow to see the new Winnie the Pooh movie until she got out of treatment because she wanted to take her.  She hasn't put Willow to bed in 10 months, and she doesn't know any of what I shared with you about mine and Wee ones Pooh time.

Nor has she ever read a Winnie the Pooh story to her....
so therefore, I ask you, am I silly being so worked up about this?

It's okay-- Hit me with the truth.  I can take it.... well, maybe.

Ohhh, Momma

Oh Momma www.notsosimplyme.com
I love it when she says that.
It is usually when she is hurt or scared.  She looks up at me with those big brown eyes, and in her Wee little voice says, "Ohhh, Momma?"  as if she is asking if it is going to be okay.
My       heart       melts.
Yes, Willow, it is going to be okay.
I will make sure of it.

It is getting easier when she calls me Momma.
At first I had twinges of guilt every time she said it.  I am not her Momma- I am her Grandmother!  But that twinge is gone now.

I have always called myself Grammie when talking to her.  Everyone else does the same--- "Go give that to Grammie..."
yet she still calls me Momma.
Wee one still calls her real Mother Momma, too.  Maybe to her it is just a name.  She hears her aunts and uncles call me Mom, so maybe she thinks that's just who I am-- Mom.

I am sure that the day will come when she will look up at me with those same big eyes, and in her Wee little voice say,
"Ohhhh, Grammie?"  and that will be okay,
but for today,
             I am Momma.

Little Reader

Sweet little Willow.  You are just a little over 10 months old now.  You bring so much laughter and joy to this home--and a lot of messes!  One of your favorite things to do is sit by your book basket and take out each book one at a time, look at the cover, maybe flip through a few pages (Which is the cutest AND saddest thing to watch because your little fingers struggle so much trying to turn the pages, but you are so DETERMINED!)  and then you throw the book to the side and reach for another.  As you flip through the pages your little pointer finger taps at the different things you see and your eyebrows bend as your face makes the cutest little expressions.  Gotta love life. (11 months old)
